Mesa Bungalows

The home is a 1930’s Spanish bungalow, purchased from Ali MacGraw, an actress who was married to Steve McQueen. The original color was white, rundown and had zero landscaping.

There were two parts of my design vision: 1. Jayne Mansfield Pink Palace in Holmby Hills - an entirely pink ‘Barbie-type dreamhouse vibe’ with touches of Mediterranean, Spanish Adobe architecture. 2. Beverly Hills Hotel feeling with the green.

To ensure this twofold inspiration shone through - I did the following: a.) painted the home a quiet pink, with green accents b.) added a fountain to anchor the landscape architecture and create monumentality at the entrance, c.) Retained the bungalow feeling where spaces are not connected to the main house, allowing for separation and privacy for multiple guests, d.) added a pergola to infuse outdoor space with charm and romance along with wrought iron sun loungers evoking a Beverly Hills Hotel feeling (all salvaged finds) and finally on the e.) upstairs terrace, built an outdoor fireplace and seating area.
